Administration and Management
PO8, PV 1, 2: Administration and Management- 805 Strategic Plan Proposal
Artifact: Strategic Plan Proposal
This course covered topics dealing with how can people who work in or administer information agencies use organization theories and models to see, understand, and shape the processes of the organization and the products and services it provides. The theories our group considered when working on this project included James Burns' Transformational Leadership Theory (1978), in which leaders develop a vision, then a strategy to reach their vision, and lead by example, as well as the Hersey Blanchard Leadership Model (1969), focusing on follower readiness to be lead and accept changes. For this assignment we were placed into groups with the task of creating a strategic plan for a fictional library. We created the fictional Aloha Public Library, located below a ten story apartment building. Our team created a strategic plan based on the needs of the library’s community and the environment in which it was situated. This assignment provided experience in working as a team to develop an organization wide strategic plan in order to provide the best service to our community of patrons and plan with their specific needs in mind. Through this assignment and other class activities I was able to identify environmental issues as they impact leadership and develop effective strategies to adapt to these environments, work effectively as a team member through group projects, case studies, and problem analysis, articulate an understanding of their leadership strengths and weaknesses, and think critically about existing challenges and developing issues in the LIS profession.
