Jessie Sweeney's Capstone Portfolio
My name is Jessie Sweeney. This is my portfolio I have completed as part of the Oregon 11 cohort at Emporia State University. I completed my undergraduate degree at Linfield College where I studied English and Business. Several years later, after some encouragement from family and friends, I decided to apply to library school. I am completing my Master of Library Science at Emporia State University’s distance program in Portland, Oregon and graduating in August of 2012.
This is my web portfolio, showcasing a selection of my work completed during my progress to a Master of Library Science degree through Emporia State University's School of Library and Information Management (SLIM). This degree is earned based on the study and mastery of the designated Program Outcomes and Professional Values. In addition to the Master’s degree, this summer I will also complete the Archive Studies Certificate through Emporia State. All of my courses outside of the Library Science core classes have been towards the certificate program. With these classes I have been able to do projects with different archival institutions, including Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, and the repository for the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, U.S.-Ontario Province, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. These last two years have been filled with great learning experiences that have prepared me for work in this professional field.
In addition to the work completed in this program, I have included a reflection of my experiences as a volunteer archivist at the Forest Grove Public Library, where I spent almost two and a half years helping to process a local history collection as a part of the library's volunteer program.
The artifacts contained within this portfolio demonstrate that I have achieved the program’s outcomes and values of the degree of Master of Library Science.
